Linda Norman, DSN, RN, FAAN
Biographical Sketch
Linda
Norman received a BSN and MSN in Adult Health from the University of
Virginia and a DSN from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She currently
serves as the Senior Associate Dean for Academics at Vanderbilt University
School of Nursing. She has been involved in nursing education for over 30 years,
serving in administrative positions for the past 20 years.
Dr. Norman focused her career on developing innovative quality improvement
curricula that has been tested, published, and presented for a decade through
various interdisciplinary and international forums. She has been involved with
health professions education activities with the Institute for Health Care
Improvement (IHI) since 1993, both nationally and internationally.
She has been successful in securing multiple training grants for VUSN both as PI
and contributing author. She served as the PI for a Division of Nursing
Disadvantaged Student Program grant, the Academic Peer Professional Support for
At-Risk Students, which initiated the Academic Enhancement program at VUSN, a
program that is still in place. She also served as the principal American
investigator of an international project with three European and three American
universities funded by the Funds for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education
and the European Commission aimed at understanding the global nature of today’s
nursing workforce issues and designing appropriate nursing education curricula.
This grant funded student and faculty exchanges between the three European
countries for VUSN and the other 5 schools of nursing.
She has been involved as project faculty, program evaluator, and technical
assistance team member for 6 grants that were related to Quality Improvement.
She served as a member of the evaluation team for the Johnson & Johnson Media
Campaign prior to her current role as Evaluation Director for the RWJF/NWHF
Partner’s Investing in Nursing’s Future project.
